Friday, May 13

“FEAST: A Celebration of Food” at the Brickbottom Artists Gallery

12 – 5 p.m.

The current Brickbottom exhibition, “FEAST: A Celebration of Food” is a visual exploration of the things we eat. The exhibiting artists have used photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, and mixed media to examine and discuss the subject.

Friends of the Somerville Public Library Booksale

1 – 4 p.m.

Come to the library and walk out with books you’ll never have to return.  The library’s book and a/v sale will offer a wide selection of items.  There is a bumper crop of books in the genres of the Arts, Civil War history, Science Fiction, Classic and Children’s Literature.

Saturday, May 14

The Nave Semi-Annual Flea Market at the Nave Gallery

10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

A flea market promising mostly $5 or less items ranging from CDs to candle holders will benefit the gallery’s programming.

Friends of the Somerville Public Library Booksale

10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Benefit for Somerville Homeless Coalition at the Amethyst Center

1 – 5 p.m.

The Amethyst Center, a multi-disciplinary alternative medicine center, will be hosting a benefit for the Somerville Homeless Coalition.  The event will have refreshments and meet and greets with Amethyst Center staff.  Attendees who make a donation ($20 is suggested) to the SHC will be treated to a brief session with one of the Amethyst Center practitioners.

Somerville Songwriter Sessions at the Center for Arts at the Armory

8 – 10:30 p.m.

The Cafe at the Armory is hosting an evening featuring the music of four local singer/songwriters.  The artists performing are Michael Troy, Chuck Williams, Mel Green, and Perry Desmond-Davies.  As an added bonus, beer and wine are now available for purchase at the Cafe during concerts.  Tickets are $10 at the door; doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, May 15

Mystic River Herring Run and Paddle at the Blessing of the Bay Boathouse

8 a.m. –

The Mystic River Watershed Association is hosting a day of physical activity and family fun.  Registration for the 5k and paddle races begins at 8 a.m.  The morning will kick off with a run/walk 5k at 9 a.m., followed by a discussion of the river grade at 10 a.m. and three paddling races at during the 11 o’clock hour.  A new edition to the event will be a bike ride, which has been organized in conjunction with the Somerville Bicycle Committee.  There is no need to register for Bike to the Sea, as it is a free event.
