by Tom Nash on September 9, 2010

The Board of Aldermen met on Tuesday, Sept. 7. Full meeting available here. Some of the highlights:

O’Donovan Threatens NSTAR with Lawsuit

Ward 5 Alderman Sean O’Donvoan asked the public to show up Wednesday to share their NSTAR power outage horror stories. Outages have become a fact of life in parts of Ward 5 during the summer months.

“I think we should sue them,” he said. “People have had it. I’m fed up with it.”

Sullivan Asks for I-93 Health Risk Study

Alderman-at-Large Dennis Sullivan requested that the state look into why there isn’t a barrier between I-93 and abutting homes in the Ten Hills neighborhood, and what health risks the proxmity to the highway may pose.

“I’ve heard from residents over and over they’re wiping black soot from their windowsills constantly,” Sullivan said. “The state has to do a better job protecting people,”

For years we’ve been asking for some kind of barrier,” Ward 1 Alderman Bill Roche added. “For some reason when they came to the Ten Hills area, the barrier stops when you come to the East Somerville line.”

TV Shout-Out

Gargoyles on the Square executive chef Jason Santos received a citation from the Board for his performance in reality TV show “Hell’s Kitchen.”

Santos lost out to 24-year-old Holli Ugalde for the position of executive chef Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant at the Savoy Hotel in London.
