Friday, June 3

Small Obsession at the Somerville Museum

2 – 5 p.m.

Small Obsession: Artists’ Dollhouses and Other Obsessively Small Works of Art, the new exhibition at the Somerville Museum, examines 20 artists whose work ranges from sculpture to photography to oil painting to architecture.  The underlying current in all of their work is the fact that all artists bring fresh perspective to miniature worlds.

“Between Straight Lines: LGBT Themes & Creators in Comics” at the Brickbottom Artists Gallery

12 – 5 p.m.

“Between Straight Lines,” the new exhibition at the Brickbottom Artists Association,  examines the way in which the medium of serial images – ranging from graphic novels to Japanese manga – has allowed artists to “survey the changing landscape of the LGBT community.”  The exhibition will be on display until June 25.

Reign of Revelry at the Center for the Arts at the Armory

7 – 10:30 p.m.

Boston’s best circus performers will descend up the Armory to usher in a Reign of Revelry this weekend.  The group will find magic in the mundane with the help of Emperor Norton’s Stationary March Band, jugglers, belly dancers, aerialists, contortionists, burlesque performers, acrobats, hoola hoopers and more.  Tonight’s performance is NOT family friendly; the show is 18+.  A family-friendly performance will be held Saturday.  Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door; there is an additional $1 service fee.  You can buy tickets here.

Saturday, June 4

Union Square Farmers Market at the Union Square Plaza

9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The first weekend of June brings with it the return of the Union Square Farmers Market.  In addition to produce and locally-sourced honey and baked goods, this season’s USFM’s vendors will also be offering wine, cheese, and fish.  Payment options include cash, debit, EBT, and WIC; those not using cash will have to swipe their cards in exchange for tokens.

Reign of Revelry at the Armory

2 – 5 p.m.

Clowns, acrobats, jugglers and other acts will bring fun and magic to the Armory in a family friendly matinee performance of Boston Circus Guild’s Reign of Revelry.  Adult tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door; children’s tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.  Advance tickets may be purchased here.

Sunday, June 5

Shape Up Somerville Road Race at Foss Park

11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The City’s annual Shape Up Somerville/Somerville Recreation Road Race is being held at Foss Park.  The event, which is the first SomerStreets event of the year, will kick off with a  children’s “Fun Run” across Foss Park at 11 a.m., followed by a walk/run race for adults around Foss Park and beyond at 12 p.m.  Registration is open to the community and costs $5 for children under 10 and $20 for adults.   The registration fee ensures that participants will receive a tee shirt commemorating the event, and water and a banana at the finish line.  Prizes will be awarded the male and female with the best time in each category.

Carnaval @ SomerStreets on East Broadway

12 – 4 p.m.

Live music, a parade, farmers market, and other family friendly programming will be happening  in the form of Carnaval on East Broadway.  The celebration will occur between East Somerville and Temple Street.  Musicians will be performing on the FossFest Stage in Foss Park.

Buster Keaton Screening at the Somerville Theatre

7 p.m.

Silent film great Buster Keaton’s 1923 comedy Our Hospitality will be screened as a part of the Somerville Theatre’s Repertory/ Classic Film series.  Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students and seniors.
