Ward 4 alderman will not run for re-election

by Tom Nash on March 9, 2011

Ward 4 Alderman Walter Pero announced on Greater Somerville last night that he will not seek re-election this year.

Pero, who served as Ward 4 Alderman from 1995 to 2001 and began a second stint in 2005, told Greater Somerville co-host Joe Lynch and new Somerville Journal editor Jillian Fennimore that he felt it was time to step down.

“There will be a new sheriff in town in Ward 4 come January,” Pero said. “I’m not going to be running for re-election.”

Pero, a Vietnam veteran who has served as the city’s veterans services director, said he grew up watching the board and has been glad to be a part of it.

“It’s time for someone else to take over the role,” Pero said.
